Dental Cavities, also known as
tooth decay or dental caries a disease of the tooth resulting in damage in
the tooth. Occurrence of dental cavities worldwide continue to be a
problem though the number of occurrences have dramatically reduced in
recent years due to countries taking stake in their citizens oral hygiene
by using knowledge and adding fluoride to drinking water. In less
developed areas of the world, dental cavities still plague those citizens.
Dental Cavities are caused by
bacteria that are contained in plaque. That bacteria takes sugars from
food and turns it into lactic acid which eats away at the tooth.
If a tooth seems overly
sensitive, or you have a toothache, that may be a sign that you have a
dental cavity. Of course, if you all the sudden notice a hole in your
tooth, that too can also be a sign of a dental cavity.
If you do have a dental cavity, a
dentist may drill it out and then fill it a material such as porcelain or
gold. In more severe cases, a crown may be used, or you will receive root
canal therapy. If all else fails, extraction may be the only other
alternative.
It is always best though to avoid
a dental cavity all together. Prevention is the key. Practicing good oral
hygiene is most important. Make sure to go see your
dentist once every 6 months. In between visits, you should make sure to
brush and floss your teeth and scrape your tongue 3 times a day. We
suggest using the OraSweet Flossing Toothbrush to brush your teeth. It's
two tiered bristle system is able to brush your teeth and it is able to
get in between unlike any other toothbrush before. Also we suggest using
the OraSweet Tongue Cleaner to scrape away the bacteria and food that is
on your tongue. Using both these items will lead to you having a much
happier and healthier smile.
