Taking care of your oral hygiene is extremely important. It can affect everything from your confidence to how you taste your food to your overall health. Not taking care of your oral hygiene can affect your confidence. Think about it, you are going out and you see someone you find attractive. What do you do? Most people sit for a second and administer a breath test either by breathing into their hand or having a friend check it for you. If you are not completely confident in your breath, you may put a breath mint in your mouth or chew some gum. We all been there. But what happens if you have no gum or mints? Do you let the person you are attracted to walk away? Wouldn't you like to not have to worry about whether you have a mint or gum in your pocket all the time? Ever look at a cartoon and when the cartoon character sticks out it's tongue, isn't a pink or red? Now stick out your tongue. What color is it? More than likely, you may see some pink on the tip but the rest is covered in a white or yellow coating. That coating is a mixture or saliva, food and/or drink you recently consumed, and bacteria. That coating covers your taste buds, not allowing you to completely appreciate the full flavor of whatever it is you are consuming. Wouldn't you like to taste that lasagna that was made for dinner? Your mouth can tell you when something is wrong with your body. When you are sick, ever notice that bad taste in your mouth? Were you aware that dry mouth could be a sign of a systemic disease? If you practice good oral hygiene methods such as brushing and flossing your teeth 3 times a day and scraping your tongue, when something feels weird about your mouth, you may be able to find something is wrong with your body. If a disease affects your immune system, you may end up being more susceptible to periodontal/gum disease. If food taste a little funny, you may have some kind of infection. It is why it is important to practice good dental care. In the same way your mouth can pick up something maybe wrong with your body, at the same time, it may even cause problems. Infections in your body may cause heart disease. Periodontal disease is bacteria getting to into the gums and breeding. Therefore, if you have periodontal disease, you would increase your chance of getting heart disease. The best thing to do overall is
to make sure you practice good oral hygiene
